Hamburg Südamerikanische Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft was founded on 4 November 1871. Just in time for the anniversary, journalist and author Matthias Gretzschel vividly traces the 150-year history of Hamburg Süd: from its beginnings and the difficult phases during the two world wars, its twice total loss of the fleet, through the period of reconstruction after the Second World War as part of the Oetker Group, to the present, which the company has been shaping since 2017 under the umbrella of the world’s largest container ship shipping company A. P. Moller-Maersk.
